Dr Himadri Datta moves High Court against OSWB

The application by Dr Himadri Datta against OSWB was heard today 10th March 2010 in the court of Hon'ble Justice Kalyanjyoti Sengupta and Hon'ble Justice Debashish Kargupta at Calcutta High Court. The President and Hony Secretary of OSWB in a joint letter to the members have appraised members of the details of the legal matter.

The election of Vice-President of OSWB for the year 2009-2010 will be held on 11th March Thursday between 11.00am and 4.00 pm at the Office of the Society at Journal IMA Building, 53 Creek Row, Kolkata 700014. All elligible members of OSWB who are intending to vote are advised to carry their OSWB identification card or any other valid photo identification card ,at the time of polling .The full election schedule is available here as a download.

Webcasting of OSWB Academic Meet


The 1st academic meet of OSWB for2009 - 10 to be held at Sankara Nethralaya Kolkata (27th February 2010 6.30pm) will be web-caste simultaneously to Chennai ( Sankara Nethralaya Chennai ) and Bangalore ( Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Ophthalmology ). A procedure is on to allow video conferencing with these 2 centres . However, if video conferencing is not feasible, it will still be webcast for the consultants and PGTs at these 2 places . It will be for the first time that an academic meet of OSWB will be webcast to other metropolitan cities outside West Bengal .

LOC is relaxed


At the end of the conference the LOC appeared relaxed. As the arduous task of winding up arrangements begun, the members of the Organizing Committee took a few moments to breathe before they took up the post Conference job. The ground floor room in the Seminar Room Complex of Science city from where the OSWB office had been functioning for the past few days was still busy on 24th January afternoon with the various committee members and office staff looking after the closing work.



Curtains Come Down !


On Sunday afternoon of 24th January 2010 after four days of hectic activities the curtains come down on the 68th Conference of All India Ophthalmological Society which was held jointly held with the 15th Afro Asian Congress of Ophthalmology. The members of OSWB who organised the conference left no stones unturned to make this mammoth show a success. This was reflected in the comment of many participants. The comment of one delegate Dr. B.C.Ratna of Bangalore probably sums up the impression of most of the delegates. This is what he had to say " Selection of Scientific Program Topic was very good, food arrangement was good. Trade exhibition venue was made in a nice manner , but the halls were far apart. "



Foreign Delegates Galore at the Conference


The ongoing conference of All India Ophthalmological Society which is being held in Scinece city jointly with the Afro Asian Congress of Ophthalmology ( January 21st to January 24th) has 236 registered Foreign delegates which makes it a truly International Meet. Bagladesh has the highest number of registered delegates to the conference ( 103 ). The academic interactions between the Indian and Foreign delegates have brought out the true essence of this conference. The Trade stalls also offered an opportunity to the Foreign delegates to interact with the the Indian Ophthalmic Trading Community.

First ever Online Voting in AIOS


The ongoing conference of All India Ophthalmological Society which is being held in Scinece city jointly with the Afro Asian Congress of Ophthalmology ( January 21st to January 24th) will see the results of first ever online voting in the history of AIOS. The voting for the election of vice president was conducted through an online voting process for the first time this year. The members who wanted to vote in the premises also had the facilty of online voting available at the venue of the conference. The results will be announced in the General Body Meeting of the Society to be held in the Main Auditorium on 23rd January evening.



AIOC 2010 is finally here !


The 68th Annual Conference of the Opthalmological Society of India 2010 which is being held jointly with the 15th Afro-Asian Congress of Ophthalmology is now in full swing. With close to 5000 registered delegates and 2000 presentations it is a memorable Ophthalmic Bonanza. On the first day evening the members were invited to a dinner hosted by the Mayor of Kolkata Mr Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya. Today evening (22nd January Friday ) members can relax in the entertainment program at NICCO Park. The coming days will see more academics and more fellowship !!

AIOC Today published daily


The OPHTHABUZZ team is bringing out daily conference news paper called "AIOC Today" at the Conference Venue. It is distributed to the delegates at the venue. It highlights the happenings at the Conference venue. The spirit of the AIOC 2010 which is being held along with the 15th Afro Asian Congress of Ophthalmology is reflected in the many photos in this Conference news paper.



New issue of Ophthabuzz Published

Ophthabuzz completes its first year. OPHTHABUZZ Vol 2 No 1 has just been published in January 2010. It covers the 2009 Annual Conference of our Society through a collection of pictures and members comments. It continues to focus on members achievement in India and abroad. A digital version is being made available in our website from this issue.

Bengal Ophthalmic Journal 2009 published

The 2009 issue of Bengal Ophthalmic Journal has been published. Delegates to the XL Annual Conference will find their copies in the delegate bag. Those not attending the Conference will receive their copy by post. The online version is also available in our website along with the previous issue. A project is underway to make as many previous issues of the journal available on the internet as possible. The Editorial board thanks all constributors and advertisers.
