OSWB was founded in 1942 under the leadership of Lt. Col. E.O.G. Kirwan C.I.E. Evolving through an office on Chittaranjan Avenue, the Society now functions out of its own office in the Journal of the Indian Medical Association building in Creek Row, Kolkata.

Vision and Mission

Our vision is to engage with everyone - to provide an enriching experience, and evolve into a strong, vibrant and mature Society worthy of emulation by our peers.

We wish to engage with all our members and mentor young ophthalmologists so that they may develop their practice ethically by keeping updated through the continuing professional development programs.

We desire to enrich the camaraderie and collegiality amongst our members and peers so that they can experience the benefits of exchanging skills and knowledge on a constant basis.

We will continually strive to listen and learn, to adapt and change so that our Society evolves into a stronger, more vibrant and matured professional Society trusted by our own members and looked up to by all others.
